Bemerkungen Seit 1997 verfügt Wales über ein Regionalparlament (Wales Assembly) mit Gesetzgebungskompetenz in 20 Gebieten, die sie in den meisten Fällen mit dem Parlament in London teilt. Mit dem neuen Gesetz soll das Regionalparlament die volle Kompetenz in allen 20 Gebieten erhalten. Verteidigung, Steuern und soziale Wohlfahrt bleiben wie bisher ausgeschlossen.

Am verlangt die Wales Assembly mit 53 zu 0 Stimmen von der Regierung eine Gesetzesvorlage für erweiterte Kompetenzen. Diese hat vier Monate Zeit, um den Government of Wales Act zuhanden einer Volksabstimmung anzupassen. Die Wales Assembly stimmt den erweiterten Kompetenzen am mit 47 zu 0 Stimmen zu. Das Gesetz tritt am in Kraft.

Amtliches Endergebnis vom . Die Summe der gültigen und ungültigen Stimmen passt nicht zusammen, weil die Ergebnisse einzelner Gebiete nicht stimmen.

The assembly has powers to make laws on 20 subject areas, such as
  • agriculture
  • education
  • the environment
  • health
  • housing
  • local government
In each subject area, the assembly can make laws on some matters, but not others. To make laws on any of these other matters, the assembly must ask the UK Parliament for its agreement. The UK Parliament then decides each time whether or not the assembly can make these laws.
The assembly cannot make laws on subject areas such as defence, tax or welfare benefits, whatever the result of this vote.
If most voters vote 'yes' The Assembly will be able to make laws on all matters in the 20 subject areas it has powers for, without needing the UK Parliament's agreement.
If most voters vote 'no'
