Nördliche Marianen, 3. November 2007 : Zweiter Wahlgang für Gouverneurswahlen

Das Abgeordnetenhaus stimmt am 9.7.2007, der Senat am 3.7.2007 zu. Obligatorisches Verfassungsreferendum nach Kap. XVIII Art. 3 und 5. Nötig sind eine 3/4-Mehrheit in beiden Häusern und eine einfache Mehrheit aller abgegebenen Stimmen.

Kap. III Art. 4:
"Joint Election of the Governor and Lieutenant Governor.
The governor and lieutenant governor shall be elected at large within the Commonwealth for a term of office of four years. The governor and lieutenant governor shall be elected jointly with each voter casting a single vote applicable to both offices. After the Commonwealth Election Commission certifies the results of a general election and if no candidates receive more than one half of the total votes cast and counted for the offices of governor and lieutenant governor, on the fourteenth day thereafter, a runoff election shall be held between the candidates for governor and lieutenant governor receiving the highest and second highest number of votes cast and counted for those offices. Runoff election procedures shall be provided by law. No person may be elected governor more than twice."

"Do you approve of House Legislative Initiative 15-26, SD1, to amend Article III, Section 4 of the Constitution of the Northern Mariana Islands to require a runoff election for governor and lieutenant governor if no candidates receive a majority of the votes cast and counted for those offices in a general election?"
