Liberia, 23. August 2011 : Zweiter Wahlgang nur für Präsidentenwahlen

Nach dem Bürgerkrieg von 1999 bis 2003 findet in den Wahlen von 2005 aus finanziellen Gründen nur für das Präsidentenamt ein zweiter Wahlgang statt. Diese Praxis wird damit legalisiert.

Art. 83 lit. b:
"Except for President and Vice President, all elections of public officers shall be determined by a simple majority of the valid votes cast in any election.
Election of President and Vice President shall be absolute majority of the valid votes cast. If no Presidential ticket obtains an absolute majority in the first ballot, a second ballot shall be conducted on the second Tuesday following expiry of the time provide for Article 83(c). The two presidential tickets that received the greatest number of valid votes on the first ballot shall be designated to participate in the run-off election, and the ticket with a majority of the valid votes cast shall be declared the winner."

Alte Fassung:
"All elections of public officers shall be determined by an absolute majority of the votes cast. If no candidate obtains an absolute majority in the first ballot, a second ballot shall be conducted on the second Tuesday following. The two candidates who received the greatest numbers of votes on the first ballot shall be designated to participate in the run off election."
